11th January: Mannum to Teal Flat

Arrived back in Mannum about 8am, the weekend passengers disembarked about 9am, so we said our goodbyes to Helen and Iain.  The remaining passengers boarded a bus for the Barossa Valley.  The temperature for today was 43 degrees and we were in a ‘catastrophic’ fire zone.  We were all a bit jittery about driving through the valley especially in some of the heavily forested areas.

In the Barossa we visited, The South Australian Company Store for morning tea; the food was delicious and they has some wonderful souvenirs – different from the usual run of the mill.  Next was Yalumba, Chateau Tanunda for lunch and Chateau Barrosa; Chateau Tanunda was the best; beautiful building located into the side of a large hill which keeps the vats at the right temperature for fermenting.  Chateau Barrosa was a bit tacky; mostly tourist shop with a very small winery.

Then back onto the ship to start looking for a fancy dress costume, meet the new passengers, and relax with a wine, while cruising to our next mooring point Teal Flat.
