Now on our altered itinerary, the plan for this morning was breakfast at the Blue River Safari cafe and then a ‘bear adventure’ river cruise and then a relaxing day at the Wiegele Helicopter Ski Lodge. Just as we were about the board the bus, we were advised that we had to go pack our bags, because following breakfast and the tour we would be heading to our original accommodation in Jasper, the Jasper Park Lodge.
Day 1 –Vancouver to Kamloops: We boarded the Rocky Mountaineer, looking forward to experiencing their GoldLeaf Service and taking-in the awe-inspiring scenery from the custom-designed, upper level, glass-domed car. The scenery is stunningly picturesque and the gourmet breakfast and lunch prepared from regional cuisine by award-winning chefs was delicious. Taking photos through the glass dome was challenging, so to be sure we did have a pictorial memory we have purchased the highlights DVD.
This morning we woke to grey drizzly skies, light winds and much cooler temperatures than the previous few days. After breakfast we boarded the ferry to travel to the mainland, travelling through the picturesque Georgia Strait, a premier site for marine wildlife. Arriving in our destination Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, is surrounded by dazzling natural scenery and rich in cultural diversity, but not many photo opportunities due to the drizzling rain.
