We spent the morning at leisure in Denali before transferring to the rail depot in the late afternoon to board the McKinley Explorer, for our 4 hour rail journey to the frontier town of Fairbanks.

This city is referred to as the “The Golden Heart of Alaska”, named for the friendly locals, its location in Alaska’s interior, and for the discovery of gold in 1902.  We enjoyed dinner aboard the train before arriving in Fairbanks.
