The morning we left Kapunda the heavens opened! Knowing the forecast we rolled the awning and cleaned up outside the day before. We hooked up the van in pouring rain, said goodbye to Kapunda and headed into Adelaide via Gawler, Playford, Elizabeth and Salisbury. By the time we reached Brownhill Caravan Park the rain had passed but the temperature was still quite low.
We settled in, food shopped at our local, Mitcham Shopping Centre as well as Tony and Mark’s for groceries (just like Gilberts at home). We are very much at home in this part of Adelaide and love our surroundings. Oddly we are in the foothills not at the beach as in WA. This evening we shared dinner with Derick’s sister Fay and her husband Ray. Was fabulous catching up in person in their new home.
We both visited the hairdressers, was so nice to have a real haircut. Then we met a cousin Leonie and her husband Phil (literally for the first time.) Our acquaintance had been through Mum’s genealogy research and now we are sharing information and keeping in touch.
We met up with friends we made on our 2012 trip around the coast of our wonderful country. The four of us spent the day touring the Fleurieu Peninsula, lunch at Yankalilla Hotel, which was yummy. Then dinner with Jan and Pete at their place that evening; a long and beautiful day.
Fay and Ray arrived one afternoon loaded with family legal documents, and photo memorabilia which we trawled through. Fay and Derick reliving their past, Ray chipping in with his memories and me scanning and naming the files appropriately. Around 6ish Karen arrived, then shortly after Andrea and Phil; the remainder of the day we enjoyed a delicious roast with Greek pastries for desert provided by Fay. Wonderful conversation and lots of laughs.
We’ve extended our stay for an additional 2 nights so now leaving Adelaide, Wednesday 12th.
