8th – 13th April 2017: Goolwa to Adelaide

Depending on which route it taken the distance from Langhorne Creek to Goolwa is around 50 kilometres; the scenery is beautiful, but the roads quite are quite dreadful.  We arrived way too early to book into the Hindmarsh Island Caravan Park so found some caravan parking and went food shopping.  Eventually booking into the caravan park around lunch time, we started catching up with the domestics:).

26th September to 2nd October 2016: Flinders Ranges – Kapunda

This morning we packed a picnic basket, thermos and water and then headed out for the day.  First stop being Stokes Hill Lookout which provided for a glorious view of the surrounding green hilly pastures dotted with grazing sheep and wildflowers.  Further away, the Flinders Ranges on one side and the Wilpena Pound walls on the other.  What a glorious start to our day!

12th – 18th September 2016: Uluru – Pootnoura Rest Area

We said our goodbyes to Rob and Denise, they turned left at the Lasseter Highway intersection and headed to Coober Pedy, while we turned right for Uluru.

We refueled at Curtin Springs, saw some movie stars in the process of filming (no, didn’t recognise any of them) and a few people running around with cameras trying to score a photo (didn’t happen).

Mount Connor is a standout in the low scrubby country around Curtin Springs and at first we thought we could see Uluru, fairly quickly realised it wasn’t quite to right shape and we still around 100 kilometres to reach Uluru.

5th – 11th September 2016: Alice Springs – Kings Canyon

The ‘hot rod’ festival’ in Alice Springs must have a huge success; every 2nd and 3rd car we  passed was an old muscle car, sandman van or something similar.  There were trucks with trailers carrying their precious hots rods, cars with trailers also carrying their restored pride and joy.  Between the rolling hills covered in smoky green foliage, ridges of orange rock and the brightly coloured hot rods heading home, the drive from Prowse Gap to Alice Springs was very interesting.

29th August – 4th September 2016: Longreach Waterhole – Prowse Gap Rest Area

After 2 nights in a caravan park, washing, cooking and domestics all up to date it was time to return to some free camps.  We have both been looking forward to a stay on the banks of the Longreach Waterhole, 2 kilometres north of Elliott.

22nd – 28th August 2016: Katherine – Hi-Way Inn, Daly Waters

Katherine’s Riverview Caravan Park is an oasis in the desert, literally; very tall tropical trees providing ample shade for all sites.  Their swimming pool is a welcome relief from the heat and especially the humidity.  Just a short walk, 500 metres, to the Katherine Hot Springs which are not at all hot, tepid at best!
